Application

This unit describes skills and knowledge required to plan and undertake rigging work for productions in arena work environments. It involves identifying and planning arena rigging requirements, inspecting equipment and completing set up tasks, and assembling and dismantling rigging and associated equipment.

The unit applies to those who work collaboratively in a team environment as they take responsibility for ensuring that rigging and associated equipment is assembled in line with safety standards, prior to performances or events, and for ensuring it is dismantled following performances or events. They may be responsible for supervising others.

The National Standard for Licensing Persons Performing High Risk Work applies to persons performing dogging, rigging, scaffolding work and operating elevating work platforms. Completion of the following units is required for certification and where applicable, at either basic, intermediate or advanced levels:

  • CPCCLDG3001 Licence to perform dogging
  • CPCCLRG3001 Licence to perform rigging basic level
  • CPCCLRG3002 Licence to perform rigging intermediate level
  • CPCCLRG4001 Licence to perform rigging advanced level
  • CPCCLSF2001 Licence to erect, alter and dismantle scaffolding basic level
  • TLILIC0005 Licence to operate a boom-type elevating work platform (boom length 11 metres or more).

Different work tasks within a live production environment may fall within the definition of construction work. If so, people entering a construction site are required to complete the general induction training program specified by the National Code of Practice for Induction for Construction Work (Commonwealth of Australia, 2007).

Achievement of the unit ‘CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry’ fulfils this requirement.
